Acupuncture is one of the oldest and enduring systems of medicine known to us. Acupuncture is an effective form of medical treatment that has grown into a complete holistic health system. Over one-third of the world's population use's acupuncture as a primary form of healing. Keep in mind that acupuncture has traditionally been used as preventative care and part of a lifestyle to enhance one's state of well-being. Five Element Acupuncture is a style of treatment that treats the underlying cause of imbalance and not the symptom. Each treatment is individualized for the patients needs and is not a formula or "band-aid" treatment. There is utmost attention given to the patients core imbalance, state of vital essence (qi) and the harmony between body/mind/spirit. When harmony is achieved a complete recovery may be experienced. What is Qi (chee)? Qi is vital life force or energy. All living things contain a certain quality of qi including us. When there is no qi there is death so everything living contains qi. The flow, quality and balance of qi is what the acupuncture practitioner is concerned with. When the life force or qi is blocked, of poor quality or disrupted there will be signs of disease. When the qi is freely flowing and of good quality there is health. What Is A Meridian Or Pathway? The qi flow occurs in our organs and bodies through meridians or pathways. The meridians or pathways disperse and quide qi and blood to provide nourishment for every muscle, tissue and cell. This circulation of qi brings vitality throughout our body/mind and spirit to support our life. The meridians are likened to rivers which bring fluidity and nourishment to the plants and land. When the rivers are dry or damned there will be an effect down stream. It is of utmost importance that the rivers within us stay flowing with vital nutrients. Acupuncture treatment finds any blockages or disruptions along the meridians and then treats the disruption through the use of particular acupunctue points. Thus freeing the flow of qi. How Does Qi Become Disrupted? Poor diet, trauma, lack of exercise, excessive activity, stress and seasonal changes are among the many things that can have an influence on the balance of qi. Some of the signs that your qi has been depleted or blocked are low energy, sleep disturbance, gastrointestinal issues, bowel concerns, lack of interest in life and many more. During treatment your pulses will be taken along with other diagnositics to asses the state of your QI. |
